30 year fixed mortgages are currently at or below 5%. Single family homes in Cambridge actually increased in value from October of 2008 to October of 2009 by $84,500 and home sales have increased by 10% in the last quarter.
The $8,000 tax credit has been extended until April 30, 2010 which means if you sign a sales contract by April 30, 2010 and close by June 30, 2010, you will be eligible for the credit. Those who qualify can claim a tax credit for 10% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of $8,000. However, the credit is not available for home purchases that exceed $800,000.
The new legislation has also expanded the income cutoff levels for single homebuyers with annual incomes of up to $125,000 and for married couples who file jointly, it has been increased to $225,000
